King Cares 5K - October 12, 2014

Dear Coaches, Teachers, Parents, and Fellow Students:

As students, athletes and members of this community, we constantly look for ways to better ourselves. We have learned that success in life is important, but it is equally as valuable to understand the significance of good sportsmanship, hard work, and kindness. Each of you has empowered us to believe that we can make a difference.

Each year, Varsity Boys Soccer creates a communal fund-raising event to support various organizations. One year, we adopted an orphanage in Brazil for the holiday season. We provided presents, learning tools, living essentials, and cheer for those impoverished children living at the orphanage. Last year, the team raised money and volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Stamford. We developed fun-filled coaching sessions as an opportunity for the kids to connect with each other and also donated sporting goods.

This year, Varsity boys Soccer will host the 2nd annual “King Cares 5K” - a three mile walk/run on King's campus on Sunday, October 12th, at 9am. This event connects King students to the community and empowers them to make a difference today and support other children in need. In doing so, we strive to create a new kind of community that promotes leadership and camaraderie. Funds raised will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Stamford and the Orphaned Starfish Foundation.

As a team, we are urging the King community to join our cause and commit to participation in the event and our goal of raising $25,000. Spread the word! In a best-efforts fashion, we would like all of King’s participating teams to register additional community teams/clubs/organizations or individuals in matching their contribution and participation in the walk/run. If you, or your team/club, is interested in participating, please call Coach Mallozzi at (203) 667-8150 or email, kingcares5k@klht.org.

You can register at: www.klht.org/kingcares5k

Thank you for your time and consideration and we look forward to working with you!

The Orphaned Starfish Foundation
http://www.orphanedstarfish.org/
Each year orphans who reach the age of 16-18 are released in various parts of the world.  The Orphaned Starfish Foundation is a non-profit that partners with orphanages in impoverished areas, providing the construction and operation of vocational training facilities. These orphans typically have little to no education and are released as “adults” into the world with nothing but the clothes on their back. Unfortunately, about 80-90% these children often with zero resources resort to acts of prostitution, thievery and/or drugs as a means of survival. Without help or support, it is hard to imagine things changing in this type of environment.

The Boys and Girls Club of Stamford
http://www.bgcastamford.org/
An increasing number of school age children are at home with no adult care or supervision.  The Boys and Girls Club of Stamford is a dedicated youth facility serving more than 1,000 children, ages 6-18. The Club offers programs and services that promote and enhance child development. The mission of the Boys and Girls club is to enable all youth, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. King has an established relationship with the Boys and Girls Club of Stamford and we remain deeply committed to this cause.
