A principle tenet of the King Mission is to develop civic-minded student leaders with a commitment to others. We champion the development of each individual’s talents, character, and self-confidence by offering our students the opportunity to help others through service-learning and active service.
The Community Service Program is an integral part of a values-based curriculum at King and reinforces the School’s belief that service to others is central to educational excellence. The program requires students to give of their time and talents to help others.
The Orphaned Starfish Foundaiton
Each year orphans who reach the age of 16-18 are released in various parts of the world. The Orphaned Starfish Foundation is a non-profit that partners with orphanages in impoverished areas, providing the construction and operation of vocational training facilities. These orphans typically have little to no education and are released as “adults” into the world with nothing but the clothes on their back. Unfortunately, about 80-90% these children often with zero resources resort to acts of prostitution, thievery and/or drugs as a means of survival. Without help or support, it is hard to imagine things changing in this type of environment.
The Boys and Girls Club of Stamford
An increasing number of school age children are at home with no adult care or supervision. The Boys and Girls Club of Stamford is a dedicated youth facility serving more than 1,000 children, ages 6-18. The Club offers programs and services that promote and enhance child development. The mission of the Boys and Girls club is to enable all youth, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. King has an established relationship with the Boys and Girls Club of Stamford and we remain deeply committed to this cause.
