This past Sunday, King hosted over 600 people on campus for our Open House programs. Highlights included presentations from Tom Main, Head of School, and our division heads. However, the people who stole the show were our students. From our Lower School speakers and Middle and Upper School student panelists, to our Tour Guides in each division, our students showcased what a King experience truly produces - happy children who are challenged in rigorous academic, artistic, and athletic programs. Follow our new Admission Twitter hashtag at: #kingadmission, to post questions and follow our news stories.
During our Open House, I referenced a quote from Sue Cesare, Class of '48 and former Head of School from 1975-1996, that she included in her speech when she was honored at Homecoming 2012:
"May this place, King Low Heywood Thomas, always be the school of choice for those parents who want the best for their children and for those students who want to become the best they can be."

King started the 2012-2013 school year with 116 new students after our most competitive admission season ever. Last year's admission season saw 940 inquiries, over 700 in attendance at our Open House last fall, almost 800 parent and student interviews, over 530 applications, and an overall acceptance rate of just 34%. The numbers alone are truly impressive, but what is more impressive are the stories we have heard of the early successes of many of our new students and families. These successes are due, in no small part, to you and your eagerness to share your stories of King with your friends...word of mouth is our best advertising.
On Sunday, September 9, our New Parent Reception brought parents, Trustees, Cabinet members, and Faculty together to learn more about King, and the transition to a new school. Remarks from Tom Main, Head of School, highlighted what can be expected by new parents. Divisional break out sessions allowed parents to meet with Karen Raidt, Head of Lower School, Bobby Walker Jr., Head of Middle School, and Marnie Sadlowsky, Head of Upper, and discuss each division's highlights, goals, and more expectations.
While the first month of School is just behind us, it is hard to believe we are already focused on the fall of 2013! The Admission Season has started with a bang earlier than ever. Our Admission Open House is just around the corner, and takes place on Sunday, October 14. We have asked many parents and students to help, as you are King's best storytellers for our prospective students and families. Please tell your friends about this great opportunity to visit King. Lawn signs announcing the event are sprouting up all over the area - keep an eye out!
This year we also have a special evening Open House for our Early Childhood Program. On Thursday, November 15, at 7:00 p.m. in the Lower School, Tom Main, Karen Raidt, Faculty, and parents will be on hand to showcase our extraordinary Early Childhood program. Our New Early Childhood Brochure is just off the presses.
All of us in the Admission Office hope everyone is having a great start to the year and we all look forward to showing off your School to prospective applicants this fall and winter.
