Welcome from the Dean of Community Affairs
Welcome to the Office of Community Affairs. This office is charged with the implementation of the School’s diversity policy throughout the King community. It is also responsible for developing community initiatives consistent with the School’s Strategic Plan, as well as ensuring a sense of welcome, well being, and safety for every member of the community.

With the support of our Parents’ Association Committees, the Office of Community Affairs serves as the nucleus from which community service, diversity training and programming, and community outreach emanate to become integral parts of the lives of our students. We strive to develop in each member of the community an awareness of this increasingly interdependent world and our role in defining what it means to be an active global citizen both today and in the future.

A principal tenet of the King mission is to foster civic-minded student leaders who possess a commitment to others.  The Community Service Program is an extension of the values-based curriculum at King, and it reinforces the School’s belief that service to others is central to educational and personal excellence.  We encourage active participation in meaningful community service experiences in order to achieve a mutual learning experience between the volunteer and the recipient of service.  We look for opportunities that originate in the academic environment and naturally lead to service learning initiatives to further support social justice practice. King combines learning and action in a way that reinforces socially responsible behavior and raises student awareness of world affairs.

As the Dean of Community Affairs, I encourage all members of the community to challenge their intellect and empathy in order to cultivate a sense of inclusivity and acceptance.  With an increased understanding of the connectedness of peoples — historically, politically, economically, technologically, socially, linguistically, and ecologically — we work to develop our students’ cultural competencies and to embrace the “shrinking world” metaphor. King embraces these concepts and looks to create and develop fresh ideas, new areas of awareness, and a unifying language of self-actualization through holistic and conscious personal development.

The King community encourages its members to identify and articulate a moral and ethical philosophy. This encourages students to reach out and engage both local and global communities. From serving as the host school to programs like Reach Prep Academy, to supporting international programs such as Build On, King truly exemplifies its Mission through the breadth of its program and scope of its commitment to community affairs.
