DIVISIONAL MISSION STATEMENTS There are a variety of policies and documents that serve as more
specific operational guides for the implementation of our Mission. A
number of these are listed below:
Lower School Mission Statement
The Lower School serves students from PreK-Grade 5. The Lower School experience lays a foundation of educational
excellence and a love of learning by encouraging the cognitive, social,
emotional, and physical development of each student in a safe and
nurturing atmosphere. Children learn best in a diverse, active,
engaging environment that recognizes individual talents and learning
styles. Thus, students are inspired to develop a sense of
responsibility for themselves and a respect for others. Child-centered
classrooms focus on the acquisition and development of basic core
skills and problem-solving strategies through innovative educational
activities. This pedagogical approach enables our students to evolve
into confident, lifelong learners who consistently strive toward their
full potential.
Middle School Mission Statement
The Middle School years, Grades 6-8, serve as a
developmental bridge between childhood and adolescence. A nurturing,
respectful community of diversely talented students, dedicated
teachers, and vested parents supports this bridge. Learners pursue
excellence through participation in a challenging academic program that
promotes exploration, risk-taking, and independent thinking. While
developing character and growing in self-confidence, young adults
become more responsible, accountable, and prepared within an innovative
learning environment. The Middle School program encompasses academic,
artistic, athletic, and altruistic experiences that prepare students
for fulfilling lives of engagement and leadership.
Upper School Mission Statement
The Upper School, Grades 9-12, provides a student-centered
learning environment dedicated to educational excellence. Within an
ambitious college preparatory curriculum, we encourage students to
realize their academic and personal potential by helping them create
programs best suited to cultivating their particular blend of strengths
and talents. Supported by a comprehensive advisory system, students
explore, discover, and develop their unique interests through
opportunities in academics, athletics, theater arts, and activities.
Upper School students become increasingly independent in a diverse
school culture that values and teaches respect, compassion, integrity,
and social responsibility. These young adults learn how to communicate
and collaborate, how to consider and appreciate a wide range of
perspectives, how to think creatively and critically, and how to ask
questions and solve problems.

EDUCATIONAL AND CURRICULAR PHILOSOPHY At King, we believe that our students bring a unique blend of
interests, talents, and needs to the educational experience. Faculty
design a variety of programs that draw out individuality through the
process of intellectual, physical, creative, emotional, and social
inquiry and expression.
The King curriculum is comprised of all opportunities that run
throughout students’ daily experience with the School. All activities
and interactions that define this curricular context promote the
acquisition of communication skills, the cultivation of intellectual
ability, the evolution of individual character, and the attainment of
