 | Welcome From the Summer Institute Director |
Offering the ultimate in flexibility, the Summer Institute at King Low Heywood Thomas gives students from Pre-K to Grade 12 the opportunity to participate in one or more classes per day during our week-long and multiple week programs. For children who are interested in improving a certain subject, learning a new skill, or who want to advance academically, The Summer Institute's academic program runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. until noon. If athletics are more in line with your child's summer interests, The Summer Institute also offers the Vikings Athletics program.
The Summer Institute courses provide opportunities for
acceleration, enrichment, and remediation, and some Upper School
classes can be taken for academic credit with the approval of the
student’s home school. Classes are NOT limited to King Low Heywood Thomas students and
about half of our students attend public, private, and parochial
schools. The Institute is particularly proud of the fact that students
from over forty-five schools were represented in last year's Summer
Institute, and over one-third of the students returned from the
previous year! King Low Heywood Thomas is an accredited, coeducational college preparatory
school, and the Summer Institute is open to students from any
school.
The Summer Institute offers engaging and rigorous
three and six-week academic programs for Middle and Upper school
students, one-week sports camps, and a one-week session for lower school students. In addition, we have included a four-week theater program culminating in a performance and a three-week instrumental program.
Information for the 2009 Summer Institute will be posted in January 2009, please check back then. Sincerely,
Alex Weiner, 2008 Director of the Summer Institute

| | I just want to drop you a note and commend you on the quality of the
Summer Institute. [My son] took the English and Math SAT prep classes
and really got a lot out of them. He looked forward to going every day,
which for a 16 year old with a new driver’s license says a lot. While
he knows, respects and adores Ms. Sadlowsky, he had an equally
enjoyable experience with Mr. Kwon. Given the challenges he has had
with Math along the way, this was a very big win for him.
So, to all of you, thanks for putting on such a good program.
Regards, E.S.
It was such a privilege for my son to attend the
Summer Institute. I must admit, he was
not thrilled at the beginning of the summer to attend, but mid way through the
program he began to feel very excited about learning.
Although pre-algebra was the most challenging for B from day one, he
told me that the favorite part of his summer was being introduced to
algebra. He also expressed that he
“really liked the teachers” because they made the Writing Workshop, Study Skills,
and Algebra courses seem so fun.
Thank you for making this opportunity available to B, and
for giving him an academic jump-start on his next school year.
Sincerely, K.Y.
